Advanced Head Health Alerting & Monitoring
The head health smart impact sensor and monitoring platform is a battle tested technology. It is currently used by World Pro Cycling teams and their team doctors.
The head health smart impact sensor ships in a club branded box. Only approved individuals are provisioned with rights to access impact data from the platform, such as team doctors, health professionals and parents. The Headstart Charity head health platform receives data collected from the smart impact sensor which records 3-axis of kinetic telemetry, measuring linear force, rotational force, and resultant G-force upon impact. Importantly, it tracks Cumulative Strain Damage Metric (CSTM). This means repeated impacts to the head are cumulatively tracked, providing medical professionals with greater data on the toll of subconcussive impacts over an entire season. After a head impact incident, regular monitoring during recovery is equally important and helps health professionals assess the readiness of an athlete’s return-to-play safely.
For team management, the Headstart Charity head health platform provides an AI monitored athlete recovery capability. Authorised individuals can gain access to a dashboard showing exactly which players are 'In Recovery'. The system AI engages with the athlete, prompting them to log acute symptoms, assisting them with recording the severity of their symptoms following SCAT6, including headaches, dizziness, and sensitivity to light directly from their phone. This removes the guesswork and gives clubs a documented, data-driven pathway for return-to-play at both the elite and local level.
When the impact sensor detects an impact event, it transmits the telemetry to the closest mobile device via bluetooth with the app installed. That data passes straight to a secure cloud infrastructure without being stored on the mobile device itself. The system then automatically triages the data and sends priority alerts directly to permitted individuals. The coach, doctor, local trainer and/or guardian will be notified instantly if a player has sustained a significant impact.
Once an impact is flagged, Headstart’s head health monitoring platform supports the medical triage and recovery workflow. The system prompts a professional diagnostic review and a standardized SCAT6 clinical evaluation. As the player enters recovery, the platform monitors their progress, taking the guesswork out of an athlete’s return-to-play timeline. Finally, all impact data is stored in a long-term athlete head health Passport, ensuring a complete cumulative head health record for the player. The platform can also integrate and display other health monitoring data that athletes, clubs and team doctors use to track overall athlete health and recovery.
